Nintendo moves live-action Zelda film release to April 30, 2027

Nintendo moved the worldwide theatrical release of the live-action The Legend of Zelda film from May 7 to April 30, 2027, Shigeru Miyamoto announced on Nintendo Today and social media.

Nintendo moved the worldwide theatrical release of the live-action The Legend of Zelda film to April 30, 2027, advancing the date from May 7, Shigeru Miyamoto announced on the Nintendo Today app and on Nintendo’s social channels.

Miyamoto wrote on the Nintendo Today app: “This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There’s less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”

The project was first announced in November 2023 and was originally scheduled for March 2027. Nintendo postponed the date to May 7 in June of last year, citing production reasons. The new April 30 date shortens that delay by one week.

Nintendo distributed the update through its official mobile app and social posts rather than a separate press release. The announcement did not include details on premieres, distribution partners, marketing plans, casting or other creative credits.

The film adapts characters and settings from The Legend of Zelda series, which debuted in 1986. Nintendo has previously been selective about permitting film adaptations of its game franchises and has managed release timing through internal production review.
