Man arrested over letters threatening Nintendo Kyoto HQ

A 27-year-old unemployed man was arrested in Kyoto after sending letters claiming he would blow up Nintendo’s headquarters and that bombs had been planted; police found no explosives.
Police arrested a 27-year-old unemployed man in Kyoto this week after receiving letters that threatened to blow up Nintendo’s headquarters and said multiple bombs had been planted on company grounds.
Officers searched Nintendo’s main office and surrounding property and reported finding no explosives or suspicious items. No injuries or damage have been reported.
The correspondence included statements such as “I’m going to blow you all up” and “my plans cannot be thwarted.” After his arrest, the man acknowledged sending the letters. Investigators are working to determine his motive and whether he acted with others.
Officials have not disclosed how the letters were delivered or whether additional charges beyond making threats will be filed.
Nintendo’s Kyoto headquarters has been the target of threats in the past. In a separate recent case, an individual who forced organizers to relocate a public Nintendo event was sentenced to one year in prison.
Police continue to review evidence and related correspondence and have urged the public to report any information connected to the incident.
