Pocketpair files ‘Palworld Online’ trademark in US and Korea

Pocketpair filed a ‘Palworld Online’ trademark in South Korea on April 24 and in the U.S. on April 27 as its legal dispute with Nintendo continues.
Pocketpair registered a trademark for “Palworld Online” in South Korea on April 24 and in the United States on April 27. The filings name the multiplayer brand in two markets ahead of the game’s planned 1.0 update later this year.
The applications were submitted to the respective intellectual property offices in late April. The filings do not specify whether “Palworld Online” would be a separate product or the formal name for existing multiplayer services. Palworld already includes online features, such as four-player cooperative play and support for up to 32-player dedicated servers.
The trademark filings were lodged while Pocketpair and Nintendo remain engaged in legal disputes over intellectual property related to the game. In late April, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected one of Nintendo’s patent claims tied to summoning characters to fight after the office ordered a re-examination of the application. The office’s decision followed a director-ordered review; Nintendo retains the right to respond and to appeal.
Neither Pocketpair nor Nintendo has issued a public statement explaining the purpose of the trademark filings or the current status of their legal discussions. The filings list the name “Palworld Online” in filings for two major markets but include no further detail on product form, release plans or commercial strategy.
Palworld remains available in early access, and the developer has announced plans for a 1.0 update later this year. The recent trademark applications register the “Palworld Online” name formally in South Korea and the United States.
