Star Fox on Switch 2 supports N64 controller and joy‑con mouse

Nintendo confirmed Star Fox for Switch 2 will support Nintendo 64 controllers and a Joy‑Con 2 mouse-targeting mode, include pilot-and-gunner co-op, and launches June 25, 2026.
Nintendo will let players use Nintendo 64 controllers or a Joy‑Con 2 mouse-targeting mode to play Star Fox on Switch 2. The title will include a pilot-and-gunner cooperative option and is scheduled to launch on June 25, 2026.
The control details were revealed during a Star Fox Direct. Nintendo presented the release as a modernized version of the 1997 game built for the Switch 2 platform. The game will offer both single-player and cooperative experiences across campaign and challenge modes.
Nintendo producer Yoshiaki Koizumi noted that players who used the Nintendo 64 controls in the original will find the N64 layout “closer to the original.” Nintendo also confirmed the Switch Online Nintendo 64 controller is compatible and available to purchase through the My Nintendo Store.
The Joy‑Con 2 option adds a mouse-targeting mode for aiming and steering the Arwing. Nintendo described the control as allowing players to switch into a mouse-controlled targeting mode for more direct aiming while piloting.
In cooperative play, one player can pilot with a single Joy‑Con 2 while a second player uses mouse mode on the other Joy‑Con 2 to act as gunner. That co-op arrangement is available in both the campaign and challenge modes.
Nintendo stated the release will retain key elements of the original flight-action gameplay and add multiple input methods to match different player preferences. The company provided the control and co-op details as part of its presentation for the Switch 2 launch title.
