007 First Light launches on Xbox, reimagines Bond origin

007 First Light arrives on Xbox today. The standalone game follows a young James Bond recruited into a revived MI6 Double 0 program.

IO Interactive A/S released 007 First Light on Xbox consoles today. The game retells an origin story for James Bond and puts players in control of a young recruit offered a place in a revived MI6 Double 0 program.

In the game’s narrative, Bond is a naval air crewman whose heroic act leads to recruitment. A mission to stop a rogue agent ends in tragedy, and Bond joins his reluctant mentor, Greenway, to investigate a deep conspiracy and to prevent a coup within the State.

Gameplay allows multiple approaches to missions. Players can use stealth or direct combat, fight with fists or firearms, use gadgets to access restricted areas, or bluff their way past guards. The game includes segments that let players drive vehicles associated with the Bond character.

The title offers mission modifiers that change conditions for replaying sections and includes missions set in several locations. The studio describes the game as a standalone retelling rather than a direct tie-in to the film franchise.

IO Interactive developed and published 007 First Light. The release combines a narrative-focused campaign about Bond’s early career with systems designed to support different player approaches.
