007 First Light: PSSR2 Delivers Sharper Visuals on PS5 Pro

IO Interactive will ship 007 First Light with Sony’s PSSR2 on PS5 Pro, producing sharper images, denser foliage and fewer artifacts; the studio enabled it in about a day.

IO Interactive confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that 007 First Light will include Sony’s upgraded PSSR2 upscaling on PS5 Pro from launch. The studio said the algorithm yields sharper, cleaner images with denser foliage and fewer artifacts. IO reports it enabled PSSR2 in about a day.

Yann Roskell, IO’s senior global communications manager, wrote that PSSR2 improves fine detail such as foliage and character rendering while reducing noise and artifacts seen in some early PS5 Pro releases.

Technical Director Henrik Schlichter described the upgrade as ‘a meaningful jump in image quality across the board — cleaner, more stable, and noticeably sharper on the kind of fine detail that’s hardest to get right.’ Principal Render Engineer Jon Rocatis noted the team had PSSR2 running ‘in about a day’ without extensive tuning, which allowed the studio to focus on other visual work.

Players on the base PS5 will use FSR 3.1.5 for upscaling. IO and Sony indicated that results on the base PS5 will not match PSSR2 output on PS5 Pro. IO said the game will scale across PS5 models and that PS5 Pro will offer the highest visual fidelity among the models.

PSSR2 is Sony’s updated proprietary upscaling system designed to handle complex scenes such as dense vegetation and detailed faces. IO noted PSSR2 targets areas that have been difficult for previous upscalers.
