70% Approve of State of Play; God of War Dominates
A poll of 6,551 readers taken after Sony’s June 2026 State of Play found 70% rated the showcase positively, with a 23-minute God of War Laufey segment drawing most attention.
A post-show poll of 6,551 readers conducted immediately after Sony’s June 2026 State of Play found 70% rated the livestream positively. The sample was the largest for recent State of Play polls.
The approval breakdown was 20% “Excellent,” 29% “Very Good,” and 21% “Good.” The remaining 30% gave less favorable responses.
Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Laufey sequence, approximately 23 minutes of gameplay, cutscenes and set pieces, attracted the most reader attention. Several respondents said the extended sequence regained some impact after elements of the reveal had been leaked before the show.
Readers also named other segments as highlights, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and a series of Rayman announcements.
Reader remarks reflected a range of reactions. One user described the livestream as “one of the best [showcases] in a while.” Another wrote that it was “one of the best showcases” they had seen. A reader who identified themselves with a Rayman avatar expressed satisfaction with the Rayman content. Another listed top picks as God of War Laufey, Marvel’s Wolverine and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. A dissenting reader raised concerns about tone and the continuing silence from Naughty Dog, noting that God of War carried much of the showcase’s impact.
Compared with earlier State of Play polls, the 70% approval this week ranks second-highest; a February 2026 event recorded 82% approval from 3,486 votes. Earlier showcases recorded varied responses, including 15% approval in November 2025 and 19% in May 2024.
The poll captured immediate fan reaction to Sony’s presentation and to Santa Monica Studio’s prominent reveal during the livestream.
