72-minute early alpha State of Decay 3 gameplay posted

YouTuber Brian Menard uploaded a 72-minute video of raw gameplay from an early alpha build of State of Decay 3 to YouTube. The footage was recorded with permission from Undead Labs, the studio developing the game for Xbox.

In the video’s description, Menard wrote that the capture comes from an early alpha build and warned that many systems, animations, features, visuals, balancing and gameplay elements are still being worked on. He added viewers may notice bugs, placeholder elements and visual issues, and that the footage does not represent the final quality of the game.

The clip focuses on the game’s opening segment. It shows characters exploring environments, scavenging for supplies, managing resources, driving vehicles and encountering infestations and “plague nests,” which appear to act as nearby threat or mission locations.

Undead Labs has released only trailers and limited promotional material for State of Decay 3 until now. The studio and publisher have set a target release window in 2027 and describe the project as still in early development.

Early responses in the video’s comment section include praise for the pace of exploration and the range of activities shown, alongside constructive criticism about animation roughness, visual placeholders and occasional bugs. Commenters pointed to issues that could be addressed in later builds.

The footage provides extended, unedited footage of current systems and mechanics in the alpha build, showing how core survival, resource and vehicle systems operate at this stage of development.
