Abiotic Factor adds free Cosmic Companions update
Abiotic Factor, a PS Plus day-one PS5 title, received the free Cosmic Companions update today, adding a chemistry system, expanded pet mechanics, a Dunkeltaler portal world and new gear.
Abiotic Factor received the free Cosmic Companions update today. PS Plus members can download the update on PS5 at no extra charge. Players without the PS Plus copy can purchase Abiotic Factor on the PlayStation Store for $34.99. The update’s patch notes run several pages and provide technical and content details.
Cosmic Companions adds a new portal area called the Dunkeltaler Forest and a site named the Alpen Signal Observatorium. Players can reach the area by exploring the western waterways of the Hydroplant. The game’s narrative notes that in-game readings by Dr. Newman point players to the new portal, and the update includes an “anomalous Alpen Adventure” with new exploration and encounter content tied to the zone.
The companion system has been overhauled into Pets 2.0. Players can feed, farm, tame and mutate a larger roster of creatures and recruit them as active companions on missions. The update introduces Peccary taming: domesticated peccaries will fight alongside the player, and certain variants produce harvestable resources at intervals.
A new chemistry system adds two workstations: the Distillation Bench and the Chemistry Bench. Items can be broken down into Distillations, which are then used to craft Concoctions. Concoctions come in three distinct types with different in-game uses and can be integrated into item recipes and character builds.
Cosmic Companions also adds new weapons, tools, vehicles and furniture, along with additional content and balance adjustments listed in the official patch notes.
Abiotic Factor launched as a PS Plus day-one release in July 2025. The Cosmic Companions update expands the game’s systems and world for current players and new buyers.
