Microsoft will release Age of Empires: Mobile — PC Edition on June 23, 2026, on Steam, the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass, with mouse-and-keyboard controls, 4K visuals and mobile crossplay.
Microsoft will release Age of Empires: Mobile — PC Edition for PC on June 23, 2026. The title will launch on Steam and the Microsoft Store and will be included on PC Game Pass at release. The PC Edition supports crossplay with the mobile version and adds mouse-and-keyboard controls and 4K visuals.
Developers present the PC Edition as a PC-optimized version of the mobile strategy game. Features listed include large-scale shared battles, alliance warfare, persistent empire-building, legendary heroes and live events. The release adds refined interface elements, full keyboard navigation, optimized mouse controls and an enhanced 4K presentation to match desktop expectations.
Crossplay will allow players to continue building empires across devices and participate in alliance activities together. The studio noted the PC Edition preserves the mobile game’s rapid pacing while adjusting controls and presentation for desktop play.
The studio described the edition as ‘something different — and additive’ for series veterans and is intended to provide a more accessible entry point for new players. The PC Edition will give existing mobile players another way to access their accounts and play on desktop.
Age of Empires is best known for its long-running PC real-time strategy titles. The PC release of a mobile-origin game aligns with a trend of developers expanding cross-platform availability. It is the only confirmed first-party Xbox release scheduled for June; larger Xbox releases such as Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day are expected between July and September.
