Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 adds 4-player co-op

Cold Iron Studios announced Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, a current-generation-only sequel due summer 2026 that expands co-op to four players and adds new Xenomorphs, classes and team mechanics.

Cold Iron Studios announced Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, a current-generation-only sequel scheduled for summer 2026 that increases co-op from three to four players and adds new Xenomorph types, expanded classes and deeper team mechanics.

The studio unveiled the game in a trailer and a press release. The press release says, “With deeper squad mechanics, smarter enemies, and a fully customizable Specialist class, AFE2 delivers the definitive co-op Aliens experience.” The developer described the sequel as larger and more complex than the original while using its core framework.

Planned gameplay changes include an extra player per squad, redesigned character classes, a fully customizable Specialist class, expanded weapon and gear customization, improved enemy AI and a wider variety of Xenomorph encounters. The studio highlighted deeper squad mechanics intended to reward coordinated team play and specialization.

Cold Iron confirmed the sequel will run only on current-generation hardware but has not listed specific platforms. The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite released on both last- and current-generation consoles; the studio said restricting the sequel to current-gen systems is intended to support higher enemy counts and updated AI systems.

Since the first game’s release, Cold Iron supported it with an expansion and changes to progression and gear upgrades. The original received mixed reviews at launch and a 6/10 score from critics. Cold Iron describes the sequel as building on that foundation by expanding co-op capacity and deepening class and loadout options.

The studio has not provided a precise release date or a full platform roster beyond the summer 2026 window and the current-generation-only designation. Additional gameplay details, system requirements and platform availability are expected closer to launch.
