Amazon: IO Interactive to Remain 007 Partner After First Light
Amazon Games head Jeff Gattis confirmed IO Interactive will stay the developer for the 007 series and denied Amazon Game Studios will publish the next title after First Light’s launch.
Jeff Gattis, head of Amazon Games, confirmed that IO Interactive will remain the developer behind the 007 franchise and rejected suggestions that Amazon Game Studios will publish the next entry. His comments follow the late-May launch of 007: First Light.
007: First Light was developed and published by IO Interactive and opened to positive reviews and strong sales. IO has reported the title is on track to be profitable despite being the studio’s largest-budget project to date.
Gattis addressed earlier remarks that had prompted confusion by saying he had not announced Amazon Game Studios as the publisher for a future Bond game. He noted a recent visit to IO’s Copenhagen studio and said the game is performing well.
On plans for a follow-up, Gattis urged patience while First Light continues to attract players and attention. He said, “First of all, let me set the record straight for you. I did not confirm that Amazon Game Studios is publishing the next one.” He asked to “let the game breathe and have its day.”
He outlined the conditions that will shape any sequel decision, pointing to player demand and market appetite as determining factors. Gattis added that if interest stays high, a new title is likely and described a sequel as “all but guaranteed” from his perspective.
IO has said it will continue to support First Light with new content and updates during the post-launch period. Industry expectations indicate public discussion of a new main entry could be a couple of years away given the studio’s current plans and the scale of its projects.
Gattis also said Amazon intends to work closely with IO and the franchise rights holders and to make measured choices about any follow-up projects. He referred to IO as “great partners” and emphasized collaboration in future work.
