Arkanoid Returns to PS5 and PS4 via Arcade Archives

Hamster Corporation will re-release Taito’s 1986 arcade game Arkanoid on PS5 and PS4 via Arcade Archives on May 7, 2026, with save states, button remapping and rewind.

Hamster Corporation will re-release Taito’s 1986 arcade game Arkanoid on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 through its Arcade Archives series on May 7, 2026. The PS5 edition is listed under Arcade Archives 2, while the PS4 release appears in the standard Arcade Archives line.

Players control a paddle-shaped ship at the bottom of the screen and bounce a ball to clear blocks arranged above. Arkanoid expanded on the earlier Breakout concept by adding multiple stages and power-ups that change gameplay, including items that enlarge the paddle or create extra balls.

The Arcade Archives package reproduces the original arcade software and includes modern features such as save states, button remapping and a rewind function. These options let players retry sections and adjust controls for current hardware.

Arkanoid first appeared in arcades in 1986 and became known for varied level design and pick-up items that altered the basic paddle-and-ball formula. Hamster Corporation has released multiple classic arcade titles under its Arcade Archives label and provides the same set of usability features across those reissues.

The reissue is available on May 7, 2026, for PS5 and PS4, offering the original stages and mechanics with added features for contemporary consoles.
