Armatus: Counterplay’s PS5 Action Game Arrives Jan. 7, 2027
Armatus, a third-person roguelite shooter from Counterplay Games, launches Jan. 7, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It is set in demon-infested Paris.
Counterplay Games will release Armatus on Jan. 7, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The studio published a new trailer alongside the date announcement.
Armatus is described as a third-person roguelite shooter set in the demon-infested ruins of Paris. Players assume the role of the last supernatural warrior of an ancient order, combining firearms and celestial powers while searching the city for a lost gateway to heaven called the Sunless Gate.
In an official overview, the studio wrote: “Knowledge is a weapon, and death is never the end. Each run, wield your scythe and a gun of your choosing against brutal demons hellbent on your destruction.” The description presents the game as a run-based experience that pairs melee and ranged combat with supernatural abilities.
The trailer released with the launch date shows gameplay set across Parisian ruins and highlights both ranged and melee encounters, the scythe and firearms loadouts, and enemy demons encountered during runs.
Armatus will be Counterplay’s third release. The studio previously developed Godfall and the card game Duelyst; those titles did not achieve commercial success.
The announcement came after reports in late 2025 that Counterplay had been “disbanded.” That claim appeared on a verified LinkedIn profile belonging to an employee at a partner studio, and Counterplay did not provide official confirmation about its status at the time of Armatus’s reveal.
