Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (PS5) Review

Ubisoft updated Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag for PlayStation 5 as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The remake reworks the 2013 pirate-era title with improved visuals, redesigned missions and expanded ship management, according to a recent review.

The update retains the original’s naval gameplay and keeps the player-controlled ship, the Jackdaw, central to play. New officer recruitment missions add structure to ship management and provide additional options during sea battles. The review notes new story content tied to recruiting officers.

Visual upgrades target the Caribbean settings on PS5 hardware. Stealth and combat systems were modernized: tailing and eavesdropping sections no longer end immediately when the player is spotted, a dedicated crouch button aids stealth, and combat adds perfect parries and shield breaks to reduce repetition.

The remake removes the original modern-day storyline and replaces it with a new plot thread about an authoritarian AI developed by the Templars. The reviewer characterized that AI thread as half-baked and underwhelming, and noted the original modern-day subplot involving Juno, Aita and the Sages was not advanced in later entries and had loose ends resolved in a comic.

The review highlights redesigned mission structure, added characters and technical improvements as key changes. The PS5 version received a score of 9. The review called the remake “a must-play for anyone who’s looking to replay through Edward Kenway’s pirating journey” and described the visuals as “gorgeous, best-in-class.”
