ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20: 7.4-inch OLED handheld unveiled

ASUS unveiled the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at Computex 2026, featuring a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED (FHD, 120Hz, 1,400 nits), TMR joysticks and a transforming d-pad; price and release date were not announced.

ASUS introduced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 during its Computex 2026 press event in Taipei. The handheld keeps the Ally form factor but moves to a larger 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED panel with FHD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a stated 1,400-nit peak brightness; no price or ship date was provided.

The company said the top bezel has been slimmed to expand the visible screen area while maintaining a portable shape. ASUS described the panel as supporting FreeSync Premium Pro and the Ally platform’s variable refresh rate to preserve smoother motion at up to 120Hz.

Control changes include TMR joysticks, which ASUS characterizes as resisting stick drift and lowering power use, and a transforming d-pad that can switch between 4-way and 8-way input. Face buttons were reshaped for easier sliding and the unit adds integrated rubberized side grips for extended play comfort.

ASUS addressed thermal and integration challenges related to adding OLED to the Ally platform. The company noted that OLED panels are more sensitive to heat than LCDs and that the thermal solution for the X20 has been redesigned to channel more airflow to the APU and reduce surface temperatures on the display. ASUS also said integrating OLED with variable refresh support posed cost and thermal hurdles in prior development.

The X20 was shown as part of a bundle that includes ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses; ASUS has not confirmed whether the handheld will be sold separately. The company did not provide battery capacity, APU specifications, storage options or precise weight at the event. For reference, the previous ROG Xbox Ally X retailed at £799.99 / $999.99.

ASUS indicated additional technical and availability details, including pricing and launch timing, will be released at a later date.
