BitSummit: 12 Indie Games Headed to Nintendo Switch

At BitSummit 2026 in Kyoto, a reporter played 12 indie games confirmed or in development for Nintendo Switch 1 or Switch 2, including Penguin Colony, Pro Jank Footy and Monowave.

At BitSummit 2026 in Kyoto, a reporter played demos of 12 independent games whose developers confirmed plans for Nintendo Switch 1 or Switch 2 releases or said they are actively pursuing those platforms.

The show ran in May after organizers moved the event from July. Attendees tested playable builds and met studio teams to confirm platform intentions; several developers reported limited access to Switch 2 development kits.

Origame Digital presented Penguin Colony, a survival-horror game that frames cosmic-horror themes through penguin characters. The studio targets a Switch 2 release in October 2026 and plans a playable demo in summer 2026.

Powerbomb Games showed Pro Jank Footy, an arcade-style take on Australian-rules football with roguelite card mechanics that alter matches. The developer confirmed releases for both Switch 1 and Switch 2 in 2026.

Studio BBB Inc. demonstrated Monowave, a platformer that changes player movement and interactions based on the protagonist’s emotional state. The studio expects a Switch 1 release in 2026.

Jacob Jazz displayed FEAR FA 98, which combines arcade soccer mechanics with a psychological-horror campaign. The developer plans an Early Access launch later in 2026 and intends to bring the game to Nintendo consoles after that phase.

D-Pad Studios presented Vikings on Trampolines, a cooperative brawler where characters must stay airborne on trampolines to avoid permanent defeat. The team described support for left-stick-only controls and reported accessibility testing with deaf players; a Switch version is likely but not yet confirmed.

Jonathan Smårs, lead engineer and designer behind Valheim, showed Starpath, a ship-building exploration game that includes in-game retro mini-games. Smårs described Switch 2 as the eventual target for that project.

Alcuria Games showcased Starless Umbra, an action-RPG with fast combat and cooperative options. The developer intends to bring the game to Nintendo Switch consoles as development progresses.

Anubis Arts demonstrated Lunars, a board-and-minigame party game built around zodiac-animal characters and a simultaneous Blitz dice mode to speed turns. The studio expects to support Nintendo platforms after a Steam Early Access period. Extremely Normal displayed WTF – Waifu Tactical Force, a fast, wallrunning first-person shooter with stylized anime presentation; the team hopes to port that title to Switch 2 following Early Access.

Smaller projects with planned Nintendo targets included Midnight Horde, a vertical pixel roguelite aiming for a Steam-first 2026 release and an eventual Switch version; Sleepover, a memory-driven visual novel in early development with plans for Switch; and Petal Runner from Nano Park Studios, which developers indicated is likely to reach Nintendo hardware.

Developers emphasized local multiplayer and accessibility options during demos. Several teams noted technical details and release dates remain provisional while they work to secure development kits and finalize ports.

The presentations at BitSummit outlined specific release targets for some titles and listed Nintendo Switch consoles among intended platforms for others. Studios cited Early Access windows, demos and 2026 release plans as the next steps in bringing their games to Nintendo hardware.
