Black Myth: Zhong Kui 15-minute gameplay trailer
Game Science released a 15-minute work-in-progress gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, showing the protagonist, new combat mechanics and Unreal Engine 5 visuals; development is not near launch.
Game Science released a 15-minute work-in-progress gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The footage, presented in 21:9, shows the protagonist Zhong Kui in combat, new mechanics and visuals built in Unreal Engine 5. The developer warned the project remains a long way from release.
The trailer contains no dialogue and focuses on extended combat sequences. Zhong Kui fights demons in forested and more cavernous, underworld-like settings, using swordplay with dodges and parries alongside elemental abilities. One sequence shows Zhong Kui placing a bomb that engulfs the area in flames and then absorbing the fire into his sword, demonstrating interactions between environmental effects and weapon mechanics.
Game Science confirmed the build shown is a work-in-progress and that the footage runs at a 21:9 aspect ratio. The studio listed PC and consoles as target platforms and identified Black Myth: Zhong Kui as a single-player action role-playing game. In an FAQ on its official website, the developer wrote it is exploring distinctive gameplay for the new protagonist, advanced technical features and different approaches to storytelling.
No release date or launch window accompanied the trailer. Game Science said additional details, including platform-specific targets and a timeline, will be provided later and reiterated that the title is intended as a single-player experience rather than a multiplayer or live-service product.
The demo highlights near-photorealistic character models and detailed environments. Lighting, particle effects and environmental destruction recur across the footage; some animations and effects retain visible work-in-progress polish.
The trailer was posted nearly two years after the first public reveal of the project at Opening Night Live during Gamescom. Black Myth: Zhong Kui follows Game Science’s earlier release, Black Myth: Wukong, which launched in 2024, received positive reviews and sold more than 20 million units in its first month. Game Science continued to support Wukong after launch with updates and new modes.
Without spoken lines, the presentation places emphasis on combat, animation and environmental storytelling. Viewers can observe enemy variety, stamina- and timing-based defensive moves, and elemental interactions that affect both foes and the surroundings, suggesting a combat system that combines skill-based melee with context-driven supernatural abilities.
