Black Ops 1 and 2 appear in PlayStation backend

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were added to the PlayStation Store backend shortly before a Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2.

An account that tracks PlayStation Store data reported that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were pushed to the PlayStation Store backend shortly before a scheduled Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The backend entries appeared immediately ahead of the Direct, which is due to begin at 3pm UK time / 7am PT. The timing prompted speculation that the listings could foreshadow an announcement or a surprise release during the presentation.

Backend storefront entries do not confirm release dates, prices or platform availability. Publishers commonly prepare storefront pages in advance of public announcements, and listings can be updated or removed before an official reveal. Activision, Treyarch and Nintendo have not issued statements confirming the listings or any plans for a Switch 2 release.

A release of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on a Nintendo console would expand the franchise’s presence on Nintendo hardware. Call of Duty support on Nintendo platforms has varied in the past; Activision previously confirmed there would be no version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for the Wii U, and some earlier retail listings have omitted Nintendo platforms during pre-order windows.

Industry reports previously linked the Black Ops subseries to Treyarch’s development slate, and earlier reporting has suggested a follow-up to the 2010 Black Ops could be planned for a future release cycle. The PlayStation Store backend entries could reflect routine storefront preparation or indicate plans to bring legacy Black Ops titles to the Switch 2.

Players and observers are awaiting the Nintendo Direct to learn whether the backend activity will lead to official Switch 2 announcements, release windows or immediate availability.
