Brook Wingman P5S lets most controllers work on Switch 2

The $79.99 Wingman P5S is a converter for Switch 1/2, PS4/PS5 and PC that maps buttons, preserves rumble and motion, and enables wireless pairing after one wired setup.

Brook has released the Wingman P5S, a $79.99 converter that enables many first- and third-party controllers to operate on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC. The device connects to a console and translates inputs so controllers register and function across those platforms.

On Switch the converter plugs into the dock. Users attach a controller with the supplied cable for an initial pairing; after that first wired connection the converter allows the controller to connect wirelessly. When connected to Switch, controllers appear as Pro Controllers and the P5S maps buttons to the Nintendo layout automatically-for example, an Xbox controller’s B button is translated to A on Switch. The converter preserves vibration (rumble) and motion inputs. Reported input lag is minimal in both wired and wireless modes.

Hands-on testing covered several controllers, including Sony’s DualSense, an official Xbox Series controller, the Nacon Revolution Pro for PS4, 8BitDo Pro 3, Gulikit TT Max and Mobapad Chitu2 HD. The device also permits the Switch Pro Controller 2 to be used on a PS5. Brook supplied the unit used for testing.

Brook maintains a compatibility list on its website and issues firmware updates to add support for more devices. A recent firmware update added Steam Controller support on Switch 2. Brook has said it plans to add compatibility for Sony’s Flexstrike arcade stick, scheduled for launch on August 6. The company previously released the Wingman FGC converter for arcade sticks, which received the EVO Award for Best Product.

The P5S is aimed at players who want to use a single preferred controller across multiple systems rather than relying on the pads that ship with each console. Brook posts on its website: ‘It shouldn’t work — but it does.’
