Bubsy 4D patch 1.1.1 fixes softlocks and framerate

Bubsy 4D patch 1.1.1 is live on PC and will reach Switch and Switch 2 soon; it fixes softlocks, physics exploits, camera stutter and removes an uncapped framerate option that caused crashes.

Developer Fabraz and publisher Atari released patch 1.1.1 for Bubsy 4D on PC; the update will arrive on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in the coming days. The patch targets stability and gameplay consistency across levels, boss encounters and input systems.

Patch notes list fixes for player softlocks and physics tied to Bubsy’s abilities. The update prevents the Scenic Pooper ability from causing hard freezes, stops the Item Sniffer from making Bubsy float under certain conditions, and removes a tank mode exploit that allowed players to glitch up walls repeatedly. Hairball and pounce behaviors were adjusted so Bubsy no longer clambers walls after attacks or exits hairball form midair. Twirl Jump visual effects that persisted incorrectly were removed.

Camera and performance issues were addressed. The update fixes cases where the camera could point skyward during large jumps and removes stutter when the camera is angled down toward terrain. The uncapped frame rate option was removed after reports it caused crashes; the game now caps at 120 fps, and the patch notes read: “Fixed uncapped framerates causing crashes for some players by removing the uncapped option.” The notes add that versusync may allow higher frame rates if a display supports them.

Level and boss changes resolve respawn and collision problems. Glass blocks now act as transparent surfaces in shooting sections, players will no longer respawn above pits or water after certain resets, and water height in Planet 3, Level 2 was adjusted to stop a looping death-respawn cycle. Boss fixes include preventing kills by certain enemies from softlocking fights, stopping slow-motion effects from becoming permanently stuck in Baarbee’s phase, ensuring Baaptiste appears correctly after retries, and ensuring projectiles and attacks properly despawn when players skip cutscenes.

The update also corrects UI and input bugs. Rapid inputs can no longer softlock the shop menu, resetting and confirming input bindings at the same time no longer causes freezes, and the game prevents deletion of an active save. PlayStation controller icons now display correctly on the title screen, and modifier keys such as Shift and Control can be rebound. Right-to-left text display issues were fixed.

Localization and presentation fixes include restoring bold font for some Chinese characters, correcting Arabic letter joining, adjusting a French translation for age-rating compliance, fixing a couple of typos, and adding additional contributors to the credits.

Patch 1.1.1 is available on PC now and will roll out to Switch and Switch 2 in the coming days. A demo that covers the game’s first three levels remains available on both Switch platforms.
