Bungie Gives Full Marathon to PS5 Buyers After PS Store Error
Bungie will grant the full Marathon Standard Edition to PS5 users who bought the $14.99 Deluxe upgrade during the game’s free trial week after a misleading PlayStation Store description.
Bungie will grant Marathon Standard Edition access to PS5 players who purchased the $14.99 Deluxe Edition upgrade during the game’s Open Play Week. The developer confirmed on June 6, 2026 that it will honor purchases made before the PlayStation Store product page was edited.
During the free trial week, PS5 users who downloaded the trial were offered a $14.99 Deluxe upgrade. Because the PlayStation Store treated trial installs as ownership, the Deluxe product page implied the purchase included the full game alongside cosmetic items.
Players who completed the purchase discovered the upgrade did not unlock the Standard Edition. The PlayStation Store later updated the product page to clarify that the Deluxe purchase grants only add-on content and that the displayed price reflects the Deluxe content add-ons, not the Standard Edition price.
Bungie confirmed it will grant access to the full Marathon Standard Edition to anyone who bought the Deluxe upgrade prior to the edit, without requiring payment of the separate base-game price. Users who buy the Deluxe content after the update will still need to purchase the Marathon Standard Edition to access the full game.
The issue arose from how the PlayStation Store marks trial downloads as temporary ownership, which allowed the storefront to present the Deluxe upgrade as though it were a standalone purchase. Bungie did not provide details on any additional refunds or compensation beyond honoring those earlier purchases.
The free trial coincided with Marathon’s Season 2 update.
