Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is the last PS4 release

Activision confirmed 2025’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be the series’ final PlayStation 4 release worldwide.

Activision confirmed that 2025’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be the final title in the series released on PlayStation 4 worldwide. The company said future Call of Duty entries will not be released on the PS4.

The confirmation followed online reports that Activision was playtesting the 2026 Call of Duty on PS4. Activision addressed those reports and clarified the next Call of Duty will not launch on Sony’s last-generation console.

Call of Duty had continued to receive PS4 releases into 2025, more than a decade after the console’s 2013 debut. Black Ops 7 will end official PS4 support for the franchise.

Activision did not provide details about whether Black Ops 7 will receive post-launch updates or any extended legacy support on PS4 beyond routine patches, and it did not outline plans for other older platforms.

The initial playtest reports originated from an online forum post and could not be independently verified. Activision’s public response did not include technical or business explanations for the decision to stop releasing future entries on PS4.

Reactions on social platforms varied. Many players on current-generation hardware expressed support, citing the need to maintain separate PS4 builds and the complications that can create for development.

Publishers have increasingly prioritized current-generation platforms for major releases to take advantage of higher performance, graphics and online features. Activision did not announce a release date for Black Ops 7 beyond the 2025 window and offered no timeline for formal details about the 2026 entry.

Because future Call of Duty entries will not be released on PS4, the series will no longer produce new mainline releases for that console; future development will target non-PS4 platforms.
