Infinity Ward announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for PlayStation 5, scheduled to launch Oct. 23. The release includes a single-player campaign, a 12-map 6v6 multiplayer suite and the return of DMZ extraction mode.
The campaign is set on the Korean Peninsula after a full-scale invasion. Players will control Private Park, a South Korean soldier on his first combat deployment, and follow Captain Price, who operates outside official channels on a personal hunt tied to a powerful weapon. Missions include trench fighting in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed chases in Paris and SAS night raids in Mumbai.
Multiplayer will launch with 12 core 6v6 maps, dedicated Gunfight maps and multiple Big War maps for larger vehicle and infantry combat. A new mode called Kill Block places matches inside a live-fire training facility that reconfigures between rounds to change routes and sightlines.
Infinity Ward described Ballistic Authority as a weapon-first technology stack that aligns bullet trajectory, weapon motion, operator stance, camera, audio, field of view and target visibility. The developer says the system is intended to reduce randomized bullet spread and provide more consistent aiming and handling while movement systems aim to preserve combat physicality and allow momentum-based play.
DMZ returns as an extraction experience playable solo or with a squad. Players assume the role of off-the-books assets recovering advanced military technology inside an exclusion zone where weather, objectives and enemy forces shift over time. Deeper incursions yield higher-value loot but increase the risk of loss; players can fight, negotiate, betray or extract with whatever they carry out.
Modern Warfare 4 is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5 and will launch Oct. 23. Infinity Ward is offering a pre-order loyalty discount of 10% on the Vault Edition for accounts that own and have played a Call of Duty title released in 2019 or later on the same platform. The offer excludes free-to-play and mobile games, applies only to pre-orders at participating platform digital storefronts, and is valid through Oct. 23, 2026.
The release continues the Modern Warfare series and brings back recurring character Captain Price.
