Capcom will alter Resident Evil Veronica story for continuity
Capcom will change the story in its PS5 remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica to align the game with the timeline of Resident Evil 7–9, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi told a Summer Game Fest Q&A.
Capcom confirmed it will change story elements in the PlayStation 5 remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica to align the title with the timeline of Resident Evil 7 through 9. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi made the remarks during a Summer Game Fest Q&A.
Hirabayashi outlined the studio’s remake sequence and rationale. At the Q&A he commented: “First, we remade Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, now we’re making Veronica, and then the story goes onto Resident Evil 7, 8, and 9. We are making some changes in Veronica to have more continuity in the larger Resident Evil universe.” The producer did not reference Resident Evil 5 or 6 during the session.
Capcom has not specified which plot points will be altered, how extensive the revisions will be, or whether key characters or scenes will be added or removed. The remake is scheduled for release next year.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica first launched on the Dreamcast more than 25 years ago. The original story centers on Claire Redfield’s search for her brother and conflicts with the Ashford family on a remote island and at an Antarctic facility. The title has been reissued on multiple platforms and is treated as a mainline entry despite lacking a numbered subtitle.
Capcom modernized Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 with updated graphics, camera perspectives and gameplay systems. The studio has not yet disclosed the remake’s director or development-team details. Capcom is expected to provide further information in the months ahead.
