Capcom planning Resident Evil crossover as remakes catch up

Producer Jun Takeuchi says Capcom is preparing mechanics and planting easter eggs to link the Resident Evil remakes with the main numbered games as timelines converge.

In a Japanese interview, producer Jun Takeuchi said Capcom is planning a crossover between the Resident Evil remake series and the mainline numbered games and is already considering the mechanics needed when the remake timeline reaches the era of the numbered titles. “Eventually, the remake series will catch up to the era of the numbered titles, and the mechanisms for that are already being considered,” he added.

Takeuchi noted that the company has been seeding recent releases with references that point to integration. “In fact, preparations for this have been gradually underway since Resident Evil Village, including the appearance of names like Umbrella and Spencer, and the reappearance of Raccoon City in Requiem. This is all in preparation for a crossover.”

Capcom has announced one confirmed remake beyond titles already released: Resident Evil Veronica, a modern reworking of the 2000 game Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, is scheduled for 2027. No exact release date has been set. The company has not confirmed additional remake projects or new numbered entries.

Some fans have suggested remakes of later titles such as Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6 could follow, but Capcom has not announced plans for those games. The studio has alternated updating older entries with developing new numbered titles in recent years.

Takeuchi did not provide further details on how the crossover mechanics will function or on the timing and order of future remake releases.
