Cate Blanchett Visit Renews Metal Gear Solid Role Talk
Cate Blanchett met Hideo Kojima, who posted photos of the visit on X. The post renewed fan speculation that she could play The Boss in a Metal Gear Solid project, though no casting was announced.
Cate Blanchett’s meeting with Hideo Kojima has renewed fan speculation that the Oscar-winning actress could play The Boss in a Metal Gear Solid project. Neither Kojima nor Blanchett has announced a collaboration or casting decision.
Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, posted three photos from the meeting on X. His Japanese caption translated to “With Cate Blanchett.” He also tagged Dirty Films, the production company co-founded by Blanchett and Andrew Upton. The post did not identify a film, game or other production involving the two.
Fans have discussed Blanchett as a possible choice for The Boss since at least January 2007. The character appears in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as a legendary soldier and mentor to Naked Snake. Fans have compared Blanchett with the character because of their similar short, light hair, sharp features and serious appearance.
Kojima has identified British actress Charlotte Rampling as the model for The Boss’s appearance. Blanchett has not been confirmed as an inspiration for the character, and there is no indication that she has been offered the role.
Interest in the fan casting continued after Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was released in August 2025. The remake brought the 2004 game to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The photos also prompted questions about whether Blanchett could be involved in one of Kojima’s future projects. No connection between the actress and a Metal Gear Solid production has been confirmed.
