CD Projekt Red announces Witcher 3 expansion for 2027

CD Projekt Red will release Songs of the Past for The Witcher 3 in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC; no PS4 version. Development is in collaboration with Fools Theory.

CD Projekt Red announced Songs of the Past, a new expansion for The Witcher 3, with a planned launch window in 2027. The studio confirmed the expansion will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

There will be no PlayStation 4 version. Players must have the most up-to-date PS5 edition of The Witcher 3 to access the expansion; the original PS4 edition will not receive the content.

CD Projekt Red said additional information on scope, pricing and a specific release date will be released in late summer 2026. The initial announcement did not include a precise 2027 release date.

The expansion is being developed in collaboration with Fools Theory. Fools Theory previously developed the single-player game The Thaumaturge and is working on The Witcher 1 Remake.

The studio’s announcement included the line: “Songs of the Past will return players to the role of legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia for a brand new adventure when it launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.”

Songs of the Past will be the third major expansion for The Witcher 3, which first released in 2015. The game’s first two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, arrived within the first two years after the main release; Songs of the Past arrives more than a decade after the original launch.

CD Projekt Red is also developing a new mainline entry, The Witcher 4, and continues work on Cyberpunk 2077 and its ongoing updates. The announcement was posted through the studio’s official channels, with further details expected in late summer 2026.
