Chaos Gate – Deathwatch coming to Xbox Series X|S in 2026
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch will release on Xbox Series X|S in winter 2026. The sequel expands squad customization, environmental tactics and includes seven enemy factions.
Complex Games will release Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch on Xbox Series X|S in winter 2026. The studio revealed the title at Warhammer Skulls on May 21. The game is a direct sequel to Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters.
Players act as an Inquisitor who commands a Deathwatch Kill Team. Commanders can recruit specialists from across the Imperium, select from nine playable classes and deploy squads of up to eight units. The campaign takes place across the Tyrian expanse and features a mix of mission types. Skirmish Mode provides standalone battles to test team compositions and tactics.
Combat focuses on environmental interaction and deliberate positioning. Designers say players can topple pillars, open vent hatches, use psychic pushes and pulls, and throw enemies off ledges to trigger chain reactions on the battlefield. The team balanced melee and ranged roles so units can be built as specialists instead of generalists.
New vehicles in the game include the Redemptor Dreadnought, Scout Sentinel and Leman Russ tank. Players will face seven enemy factions, including Genestealer Hivecults, Orks, T’au and forces of Chaos. Complex Games collaborated with Warhammer specialists to align the title with established lore.
The user interface and control systems were designed for consoles from the start. Developers alternated between controller and keyboard-and-mouse during production to ensure both control options feel natural.
Jonas Van Niekerk, Complex Games studio head, said the team aimed to create an authentic experience for long-time Warhammer players while making the story accessible to new players. He highlighted the game’s emphasis on environmental “domino” effects and abilities that can fling units over ledges or reposition enemies with psychic powers.
