Circana’s April US chart: Tomodachi Life No.1, Saros No.9

Circana blended verified publisher digital sales with estimates for holdouts in its April U.S. report, ranking Tomodachi Life No.1 and Saros at No.9 on a revenue-weighted top 10.

Circana’s April U.S. video game sales report combines verified digital sales from publishers that share full data with estimated digital figures for companies that do not. The firm ranked Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream as the top seller for the period and placed Saros, a PlayStation 5 release, at No. 9 on a revenue-ranked top 10.

Circana identified which digital figures were confirmed and which were projected in its publication. The company included only a top 10 because analyst Mat Piscatella noted titles below that range may lie within the projections’ margin of error, reducing confidence in lower placements.

Tomodachi Life reached No. 1 with confirmed physical sales and estimated digital sales contributing to its position. The chart is ranked by revenue, which affects how higher-priced releases appear in the list. Saros’s debut at No. 9 reflects reported physical and digital sales; Circana’s report describes the performance as softer than some recent $70 releases when measured by revenue.

Starfield moved to No. 8 after a PS5 release, rising more than 200 positions versus March. Circana reported that the Switch 2 outsold the PS5 in both units and revenue for the month. The PS5’s month aligned with its launch remains about 2% ahead of the PS4’s launch-aligned sales.

The report covers sales through May 2, so it includes several days of sales after titles that launched late in April. Independent industry estimates place Alinea’s global sales near 300,000 units; analysts expect those sales will be frontloaded, which could limit the game’s presence in May charts.

Circana also published a year-to-date top 10 led by Resident Evil: Requiem and including Crimson Desert, MLB The Show 26 and Pokemon Pokopia. The year-to-date list and the monthly top 10 are both annotated to show which digital sales are actual and which are projections.

Circana is used as a U.S. sales tracker; its method of blending confirmed numbers and projections is reflected throughout the April report and in the annotated lists.
