Cotton Reboot! hits PS5 and Switch 2 on Oct. 22, 2026
Cotton Reboot! arrives on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 22, 2026, with HD Reboot and original X68000 modes; it will be available in physical and digital formats.
Clear River Games will release Cotton Reboot! for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 22, 2026. The release will be available in both physical and digital formats and offers two presentation modes: HD Reboot and X68000 original. The title is a reboot of the 1991 action shooter Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams.
The game was previously re-released in 2021 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. The 2026 edition is built for current hardware and will appear on retail shelves and digital storefronts.
HD Reboot provides updated visuals and modern display features. X68000 original aims to preserve the pixel-perfect look and gameplay behavior of the Sharp X68000 home computer version. Players may select either mode at launch.
Gameplay follows the original structure: players control Cotton, a young witch, and her fairy companion Silk as they move through levels searching for the candy-like item called Willow. The game retains shoot-’em-up mechanics, combining projectile-based combat with brightly colored stage design.
The publisher’s description reads: “Defining the cute ’em up genre since 1991, Cotton the witch captured players’ hearts and tested their resolve as she became a beloved mascot of the genre, seeking out her beloved sweet Willow treats. Now returning in Cotton Reboot!, players will be reintroduced to one of Japan’s favorite cute ’em up titles, this time in either HD or the iconic pixel perfect graphics thanks to the HD Reboot mode or X68000 original mode.”
Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams is cited as an early example of the ‘cute ’em up’ subgenre, a variant of shoot-’em-ups known for whimsical visuals and bright color palettes. Other titles associated with the category include Twinbee, Fantasy Zone and Parodius.
Clear River Games has not announced pricing or special editions. The publisher confirmed only the Oct. 22, 2026 release date, platforms and the availability of both HD and original presentation modes.
