Dead or Alive 6 Last Round (PS5) review: PS5 update

Dead or Alive 6 Last Round arrives on PS5 seven years after DOA6 with 4K, a photo mode, oboro lighting on some stages and five non‑crossover DLC fighters; it lacks rollback netcode, crossplay and King of Fighters DLC.

Dead or Alive 6 Last Round launched on PlayStation 5 seven years after the original DOA6. The PS5 edition packages the base game’s content with additions that target current‑generation hardware, including a new photo mode, Team Ninja’s oboro lighting on some stages and five non‑crossover downloadable fighters: Nyotengu, Phase‑4, Momiji, Rachel and Tamak.

The PS5 build runs in 4K. The oboro lighting system is active on several stages and affects lighting and water visuals; not all stages support oboro at launch. The photo mode provides controls for sweat, facial expressions and other capture options for character shots.

Core gameplay systems from DOA6 remain unchanged. The combat still uses the triangle of strikes, throws and holds, and the fatal rush mechanic for simplified combos is retained. The PS5 release includes the original game’s modes, such as the cinematic story mode, single‑player quests and combo challenges. Several characters, including Kasumi and Marie Rose, received new costumes in Last Round.

The PS5 edition does not include rollback netcode or crossplay. The two King of Fighters crossover characters, Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond, are not bundled with Last Round and remain separate paid DLC. Team Ninja announced that additional stages will receive oboro lighting via free post‑launch updates and that more characters and skins will be released as paid DLC.

Producer Yosuke Hayashi described the aim as creating the “ultimate photo mode.”

Team Ninja and the series publisher have presented Last Round as an updated edition for current‑generation consoles and plan further updates and DLC leading up to the next mainline entry.
