Directive 8020 launches May 12 on PS5 for $49.99

Directive 8020, Supermassive Games’ standalone Dark Pictures entry, launches on PS5 on May 12, 2026 for $49.99. Pre-orders include a Digital Deluxe upgrade.

Supermassive Games will release Directive 8020, a standalone entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology, on PS5 worldwide on May 12, 2026. The standard edition is listed at $49.99 on the PlayStation Store.

The title was announced in 2022 as the opening game of a planned second season of the anthology. Last year Supermassive moved away from the season format, reworked Directive 8020 as a standalone game and delayed its release to accommodate the changes.

Directive 8020 is the fifth entry in the anthology, following The Devil in Me (2022). Supermassive has confirmed the PS5 release but has not announced additional platforms.

The game places players on the colony ship Cassiopeia after it crash-lands on an alien world. The game’s synopsis reads: “When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realize they are far from being alone. Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.”

Directive 8020 follows Supermassive’s cinematic-horror approach, with a focus on branching narrative choices and options for single-player or cooperative play.

Pre-orders on the PlayStation Store include a Digital Deluxe upgrade that bundles The Dark Pictures Outfit Pack, additional collectibles, cinematic filter packs, a digital artbook and an exclusive soundtrack. Supermassive notes the Digital Deluxe content is available only as a pre-order upgrade and will not be sold separately on the PlayStation Store.

The studio has not released extensive gameplay footage tied to the new release date.
