Donkey Kong 64 Arrives on Switch Online Expansion Pack June 4
Donkey Kong 64 joins the Nintendo 64 library on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on June 4, 2026.
Nintendo announced it will add Donkey Kong 64 to the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics collection for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on June 4, 2026. The title will be available through the Expansion Pack tier on that date.
In Donkey Kong 64, players control Donkey Kong and other members of the Kong family as they attempt to rescue kidnapped relatives and recover Golden Bananas after King K. Rool strands a mechanical island near DK Island. The game features five playable characters-Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong and Chunky Kong-each with distinct abilities and upgrade paths that influence movement and combat.
Gameplay mixes exploration, platforming and puzzle-solving across large levels with collectible-driven objectives. The release includes single-player progression through platforming sections, swimming and climbing challenges, and a variety of minigames. Local multiplayer is supported with four-player split-screen battle arenas for competitive play on the same console. The game includes NPC interactions such as the caged Kremling K. Lumsy, who provides in-game assistance.
Donkey Kong 64 will be accessible to subscribers who pay for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier that includes Nintendo 64 classics. Subscribers will be able to play the title through the service without purchasing the original cartridge or a separate re-release.
Rare developed the game and Nintendo published it in 1999. At release it was noted for its large levels, multiple playable characters, a heavy focus on collectibles like Golden Bananas, and a mix of platforming and 3D exploration.
Players with an active Expansion Pack subscription will gain access to Donkey Kong 64 on June 4, 2026, through the Nintendo Switch Online service.
