Dragon Prince Co-Creator Joins Overwatch Team

Justin Richmond has joined Blizzard’s Overwatch team as Franchise Creative Director, he announced in a LinkedIn post. The hire prompted fan speculation that Blizzard could pursue an Overwatch animated series.

Richmond co-created Netflix’s The Dragon Prince and has a background in serialized animation. Overwatch has released short animated films and uses in-game storytelling; players have requested longer narrative projects to expand the game’s characters and world.

In his LinkedIn message, Richmond recalled attending BlizzCon when Overwatch was first announced and described repeatedly playing the original demo to learn the hero Tracer. He wrote, “I’m excited to announce that I have joined the Overwatch Team as the new Franchise Creative Director. I can’t wait to contribute to the next era of Overwatch!”

Blizzard has not announced an Overwatch animated series alongside Richmond’s appointment. Players and community creators have discussed the hire on social platforms and will look to Blizzard’s official channels and upcoming events for any project announcements.
