Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World for Switch, Switch 2

Square Enix revealed Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World during its 40th anniversary showcase, posting a short “Coming Soon” teaser that names the title for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The announcement did not include a release date.

The teaser shows a lineup of monsters and two young, unnamed protagonists set against a faded landscape. The clip contained no gameplay footage, no release window and no technical details about platforms beyond the two Nintendo consoles named in the announcement.

Series creator Yuji Horii noted the team hopes to release the game “before Dragon Quest XII.” The showcase also stated that development on the next mainline Dragon Quest entry has restarted, listing both projects as active in the franchise pipeline.

The Withered World is the latest entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters series, a spin-off focused on recruiting, raising and battling monsters drawn from the main series’ bestiary. The teaser suggests the new title will use that formula, but the developer has not confirmed mechanics, features or game structure.

Square Enix has not released additional promotional material, screenshots, developer credits, engine details or preorder and beta information. No production milestones or public roadmap were provided alongside the teaser.

The announcement was part of a broader 40th anniversary presentation that included other projects and remasters. Dragon Quest XI is scheduled for release on Switch 2 later this year. Further official updates from Square Enix will be required to confirm a release date, platforms beyond Switch systems, or gameplay details.
