Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Coming to PS5

Square Enix announced Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, titled Dragon Quest Monsters 4 in Japan, for PlayStation 5. The game is a mainline entry in the Monsters series and will be the first PlayStation release for the subseries since a Japan-only PS1 compilation in 2002.

The announcement arrived as a short teaser that confirmed a PS5 version but did not provide a release date or gameplay footage. The teaser used the English subtitle The Withered World while noting the game’s Japanese numeric title.

Developers indicated more information will be released in the near future, suggesting a fuller reveal and gameplay trailers may follow.

The Dragon Quest Monsters series focuses on recruiting and training teams of monsters for turn-based battles. For decades the series has appeared mainly on Nintendo hardware. The only previous PlayStation release was Dragon Quest Monsters 1+2 on PS1 in 2002, which released only in Japan. A more recent entry, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, launched on Nintendo Switch and later received a PC port after its exclusivity period.

Beyond confirming the PS5 platform and the Japanese title, the teaser did not disclose game systems, story details, multiplayer features or regional release plans. Further announcements are expected to clarify supported platforms, release timing and gameplay specifics.
