Dune: Awakening launches on PS5 with PS5 Pro enhancements

Funcom released Dune: Awakening on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5 today. The PS5 version includes performance and visual enhancements for PS5 Pro. The standard edition is listed at $49.99. Ultimate and Deluxe digital editions are available on the store, and a physical disc edition can be purchased through online retailers.

The open-world survival game is set on Arrakis in an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides was never born and the Fremen have vanished. In this timeline Lady Jessica gives birth to a daughter, Ariste, following orders from the Bene Gesserit. Players take the role of an undercover agent for the Bene Gesserit sent to Arrakis to investigate the Fremen’s disappearance, survive the desert environment and take part in the conflict between House Atreides and House Harkonnen.

Players can choose which faction to support at key points in the story. Those choices affect relationships with factions and access to resources. Beyond the main narrative, the game emphasizes long-term goals through base building and territorial control. Players can construct small outposts or large strongholds in different architectural styles and expand their influence over spice harvesting operations across the Deep Desert.

Faction warfare is a central endgame feature: player groups fight for territory and control of resources, with higher risks and rewards in deeper desert zones. Vehicle crafting allows construction of ground vehicles and ornithopters to cross the desert, survive sandstorms and confront or escape roaming sandworms. The game supports single-player and multiplayer modes, and lets players adjust difficulty and gameplay options.

To coincide with the PlayStation release, Funcom released a Filmic Archive DLC that adds cosmetics inspired by the franchise’s live-action films. The developer lists Ultimate and Deluxe editions on the PlayStation Store and maintains a physical disc option through online retailers.

Dune: Awakening first launched on PC, where it received a positive reception from players. Funcom adapted the PC version for PS5 with performance and visual upgrades for PS5 Pro hardware while keeping the core survival and territory-control systems.
