Dune: Awakening lands on Xbox Sept. 22 with Game Pass

Dune: Awakening launches on Xbox Sept. 22 via Xbox Game Pass as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, adding a full single-player mode plus cross-play, cross-progression and handheld support.

Developer Funcom will release Dune: Awakening on Sept. 22 on Xbox Series X|S and through Xbox Game Pass as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. The release will be available on PC via Xbox Play Anywhere, the ROG Ally and Xbox Cloud, and the build is Handheld Optimized. Pre-orders are open: the base game is $49.99, the Deluxe edition is $69.99 and the Ultimate edition is $89.99. Deluxe and Ultimate purchases include five days of early access beginning Sept. 17. All pre-orders include an in-game Terrarium of Muad’Dib item.

The Xbox version adds a full standalone single-player campaign described as the complete Book One story delivered in one release rather than staggered chapters. The user interface and controls have been adapted for gamepad input. Players can choose a Performance Mode aimed at 60 frames per second or a Quality Mode with higher visual fidelity.

Players can scale difficulty and adjust server settings that control sandstorm frequency, harvesting and experience rates, death drop rules and base-building limits. Funcom confirmed cross-play and cross-progression across platforms. Multiplayer will support private servers for small groups and larger public servers that can host hundreds of players.

The Xbox build will include content and technical updates that arrived on PC after the game’s June 2025 launch. Additions carried over to Xbox include optional PvP so the full game can be played in PvE, expanded late‑game content focused on the conflict between House Atreides and House Harkonnen, new missions and locations, specialized character augmentations, and quality‑of‑life tools such as base and vehicle backup features.

In a statement, Funcom described the Xbox release as the “definitive version” of Dune: Awakening and said a free post‑launch map called the Polar Cap will add an icy region with new survival mechanics, stories and craftable content.

Dune: Awakening combines open‑world survival systems with role‑playing and cinematic storytelling. Players begin with basic survival tasks on Arrakis, can develop characters through five Schools of the Imperium, craft vehicles and ornithopters, build bases and refine spice. The game features cities including Arrakeen and Harko Village, dynamic desert encounters such as sandworms, and a combat system that mixes melee, ranged weapons and special abilities. The same core content supports single‑player, private co‑op and public large‑scale multiplayer modes.
