Ex-Forza Team Reveals Clutch, PS5 Open-World Action Racer

Maverick Games announced Clutch, a cinematic open-world action-driving game for PS5 due Spring 2027 with PvPvE open-world race-and-chase modes and deep vehicle customization.

Maverick Games, a UK studio formed by former Forza Horizon developers and led by designer Mike Brown, announced Clutch. The game is due on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027. An initial trailer appeared during a studio livestream; a full presentation is scheduled for Friday at Summer Game Fest to show more of the game’s story, cast and world.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Clutch pairs traditional circuit races with an open-world PvPvE structure. Players will encounter other live drivers in the shared world while competing in structured events or taking part in underground race-and-chase sequences that include high-speed chases and escape segments.

The studio described the title as offering both conventional circuit events and underground race-and-chase scenarios. Maverick has listed extensive car customization and systems intended to give vehicles a more human quality, without detailing how those systems will work.

Mike Brown led design on the last four Forza Horizon titles and worked on MotorStorm Apocalypse and DriveClub. Other team members who previously worked on Forza Horizon include Tom Butcher (producer), Matt Craven (technical director), Gareth Harwood (technical art director), Fraser Stachan (audio director) and Ben Penrose (art director).

Maverick has not disclosed specific multiplayer modes, post-launch support plans or pricing. More information is expected during the Summer Game Fest presentation later this week.
