Fable delayed to February 2027; Xbox, PS5 releases pushed
Playground Games’ Fable is now scheduled for February 2027; Xbox said the Xbox and PS5 releases were moved from fall 2026 and more will be shown at its June 7, 2026 showcase.
Xbox announced on social media that Playground Games’ Fable has been delayed to February 2027. The post said the release, previously expected in fall 2026, was moved “so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.” No specific day in February was provided.
Fable was first revealed in 2020 and was originally slated for 2025. That target was later shifted to fall 2026 before the latest change to early 2027. Xbox noted that no firm fall 2026 date had been set before the delay announcement.
The postponement covers both the Xbox and PlayStation 5 editions. Fable is the first mainline entry in the series since 2012 and is being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon racing franchise.
Xbox framed the timing as a scheduling decision related to presentation and release plans and confirmed additional footage will be shown at its June 7, 2026 showcase.
Playground Games’ official Fable account acknowledged fan disappointment, writing, “we know the news isn’t great,” and added that players will be playing the game before long.
Xbox listed Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Halo: Campaign Evolved among titles on its 2026 holiday slate. More footage and information at the June showcase is expected to provide further detail on the game’s scope, features and polish. Until then, February 2027 remains the target release window.
