FF VII Rebirth lands on Switch 2; Donkey Kong 64 added

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launched on Nintendo Switch 2. Donkey Kong 64 joined Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack and Nintendo updated Nintendo Music while an Indie Sale nears June 7.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now on the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Nintendo eShop. The game continues Cloud Strife’s story beyond Midgar and adds open-world exploration, chocobo riding and new encounters. eFootball Kick-Off is also available on the Switch 2, offering solo and multiplayer modes, World Tour and International Cup play, six-a-side casual matches and a rank-based progression system.

Donkey Kong 64 has been added to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The 1999 Nintendo 64 platformer appears on the Expansion Pack tier with its original large, collectible-filled levels, character-specific abilities, minigames and four-player split-screen arenas.

Nintendo updated its Nintendo Music service with wider device support, adding compatibility for computers, tablets, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The service introduced a My Mix playlist feature that generates selections from a user’s play history; Nintendo notes My Mix is not available in web browsers. New soundtrack additions include tracks from Mario Kart World such as “Mario Bros. Circuit,” “Peach Beach” and “Moo Moo Meadows,” and music from the Pikmin series including “The Forest of Hope” and “The Distant Spring.”

A limited-time in-game event for Donkey Kong Bananza’s DK Island + Emerald Rush paid DLC, titled Kong Bananza Returns, will run from June 9 at 1:00 a.m. PT to June 16 at 12:59 p.m. PT. During the event players can pursue specific in-game collectibles, including statues of Tiki Kong and Tiki Goon.

The Nintendo eShop is ending its Indie Sale on June 7 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The sale includes hundreds of independent titles for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, among them Hollow Knight: Silksong – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Deadzone: Rogue and Rotwood. Nintendo directed users to the eShop or its website for the full sale list.

New releases on Nintendo eShop this week include several titles for both systems. On Nintendo Switch 2, recent releases include Arcade Archives 2 ACE DRIVER, Dark Auction – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (available June 10), Little Nightmares II Enhanced Edition, RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic and Stray. New and upcoming Nintendo Switch releases this week include Kitten Island 2 (available June 6), Secret Paws – Cozy Apartments (available June 10) and Solarpunk (available June 8), alongside a range of indie and retro titles.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second main entry in the multi-part reimagining of the original 1997 Final Fantasy VII. Donkey Kong 64 originally launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1999 and is noted for its large levels and collectible-driven progression. Nintendo continues to add classic titles to the Expansion Pack, update its digital services and run timed events for existing games.
