FF7 Revelation keeps minigames, adds skip and easy modes
Director Naoki Hamaguchi says FF7 Revelation will keep Rebirth’s minigames, show rewards up front, shift most rewards to cosmetics, add easier settings and offer a skip option.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will retain the minigames introduced in Rebirth but change how they are presented and rewarded. The development team will display rewards up front, shift most rewards toward cosmetics and customization, add easier difficulty settings for minigames and provide an option to skip them.
Players will see a label before each optional activity indicating the reward type. Labels will distinguish Materia, stat-boosting items tied to combat, and non-combat items such as character skins, Hamaguchi noted.
Most minigame rewards will be decoupled from combat progression so players who focus on the main story and battles do not have to complete optional challenges to stay competitive. Rewards that increase fighting power will be less common, while cosmetic and customization items will be emphasized.
Revelation will include a dedicated difficulty setting for minigames and allow players to skip a minigame entirely. Players can choose easier settings or bypass activities to continue the main campaign without added detours.
Hamaguchi explained: “One thing we’ve done is to make the rewards system much clearer. In FF7 Revelation’s side content, we’ve made it immediately obvious what you’ll get from participating.” He added that the team adjusted reward types so players “don’t have to engage with minigames if you don’t want to.”
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth received praise for its story and scope and criticism for the quantity of optional activities. Some minigames drew strong interest, while other challenges prompted complaints about the time required to obtain powerful equipment. Revelation is the next direct sequel in the remake trilogy, and the team applied these changes to how side content is shown and rewarded.
