Final Fantasy Resonance: HD-2D RPG for PS5 arriving Oct. 22

Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Resonance, an HD-2D, command-based RPG for PlayStation 5 that launches Oct. 22 and features summons of past Final Fantasy characters.

Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Resonance, a new role-playing game for PlayStation 5, will arrive Oct. 22. The publisher described the title as an original story set in a new world built around the series’ recurring crystal motif.

Resonance is the franchise’s first HD-2D Final Fantasy entry, combining retro-style two-dimensional character sprites with modern visual effects and lighting. Players will control characters in a turn-based, command-driven battle system.

A summoning mechanic lets players call on characters from earlier Final Fantasy games to aid in combat; Square Enix indicated the feature draws on the series’ history of summonable allies.

Square Enix confirmed PlayStation 5 as the launch platform for Oct. 22 but did not announce other platforms or pricing. The publisher has not released details on campaign length, multiplayer options, or post-launch support.

Additional materials such as trailers, pre-order details, special editions and system requirements are expected before the October release. Final Fantasy is a long-running franchise that began in the 1980s and has featured crystals and summonable allies across multiple entries.
