Final Fantasy Resonance coming to Switch and Switch 2

Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Resonance, a new turn-based role-playing game in the Final Fantasy series, with a worldwide release date of Oct. 22, 2026 for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The game will arrive on both consoles on the same day.

Resonance uses the HD-2D visual style. That style pairs detailed 2D pixel sprites with modern lighting, depth of field and textured environments to create layered scenes with contemporary effects.

The game centers on turn-based combat. Square Enix has not released detailed information on battle systems, how they will compare with past Final Fantasy entries, or whether the title will introduce new mechanics.

Square Enix confirmed that characters from other Final Fantasy games will appear in Resonance but did not provide names, roles, or how those characters will be integrated into the story.

The publisher announced the platforms and launch date but did not disclose pricing, pre-order windows, special editions, or plans for release on non-Nintendo hardware. Additional gameplay footage, release details and cast information are expected in future updates from the developer.

Final Fantasy is a long-running series that has used a range of visual styles and combat systems since its debut in the late 1980s. Recent projects from Square Enix have employed HD-2D design; Final Fantasy Resonance continues that approach while returning to turn-based battles and including characters from earlier entries.
