Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster arrives on Switch 2 July 23

Square Enix confirmed the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster will be available digitally on the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23. The remastered bundle is set to appear on Nintendo’s digital store at launch.

The release was announced as part of a roundup of Final Fantasy franchise updates. Square Enix indicated the Switch 2 version will be digital-only at release and suggested other classic Final Fantasy titles currently available on the Nintendo Switch could receive Switch 2 updates.

Square Enix pointed to a Nintendo Direct scheduled for 3 p.m. UK time as a possible venue for additional Switch 2 announcements. The publisher did not specify which other titles might be updated or when those updates would arrive.

The company has not confirmed a physical edition for Switch 2, nor has it provided technical details such as resolution targets, performance improvements, save-transfer options, or any special editions tied to the new release.

In the same announcement, Square Enix reported that its Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has shipped and digitally sold more than two million copies across platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. The Pixel Remaster releases present earlier numbered Final Fantasy games in updated 2D form and have been released on modern consoles and PC.

Further information on pricing, pre-orders and feature differences between the current Switch versions and the Switch 2 release is expected closer to the July 23 launch or during the upcoming Nintendo Direct.
