Firesprite announces Until Dawn 2 for PS5, due 2027
Firesprite announced Until Dawn 2 for PS5, due in 2027. The standalone sequel shifts to an abandoned tropical island, follows ghost-hunter crew Dead True and returns Dr. Hill.
Firesprite announced Until Dawn 2 for PlayStation 5 with a release planned for 2027 and released the game’s first trailer. The title is a standalone sequel that relocates the series from a snowy mountain lodge to an abandoned tropical island and introduces a new principal cast: the ghost-hunting crew behind the online channel Dead True. Actor Peter Stormare will reprise the role of Dr. Hill.
The studio is leading development on the project and described it as its first major release since collaborating on Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Firesprite said many team members are fans of the original Until Dawn and that the sequel preserves the earlier game’s focus on character drama, branching choices and survival outcomes while presenting a new story and setting.
In the game’s premise, Dead True has built an audience by staging paranormal events. After signing a deal with a television network, the crew travels to a fully funded shoot on a remote tropical island. What begins as a production assignment reveals long-standing violent secrets connected to the island’s past, and the crew confronts real supernatural dangers.
Firesprite described Until Dawn 2 as a modern horror experience built around branching narrative choices. Player decisions will influence relationships between characters and determine who survives. The developer highlighted that small choices can change character dynamics and produce cascading effects through the plot. Examples given by the studio include choosing to risk injury to free an animal from a trap, maintaining a risky affair to preserve group cohesion or pressuring a teammate to cross personal limits to capture footage.
The reveal confirmed that Firesprite will release more information on story details, gameplay systems and the full cast in the months before the 2027 launch. In its announcement, the studio wrote, “We’re beyond excited to finally announce an all-new sequel for PS5,” and noted its aim to respect the original game’s core elements while introducing new characters and situations.
