Forza Horizon 6 launches in Japan with Tokyo map
Forza Horizon 6 has launched in Japan with a Tokyo-centered map, two progression tracks, new in-world vehicle finds and region-specific mascots.
Forza Horizon 6 has launched in Japan. The game was developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. Its map centers on Tokyo and surrounding regions and is the largest and most varied in the series to date.
The world combines a dense downtown urban area, mid-map marshland and an upper mountainous region. Points of interest include car parks, temples and cherry blossom-lined streets. Weather and lighting vary between daytime driving and rainy nights. In-world vehicle finds and collectibles have been placed across the map with an emphasis on Japanese car culture.
Core progression is divided into two tracks: Horizon Festival and Discover Japan. The Horizon Festival track includes traditional festival races, PR stunts and Showdown set pieces. A Wristband system gates certain events by car class. The Discover Japan track focuses on open-world exploration and rewards activities such as collecting region-specific mascots, which register progression and produce an audio cue when hit.
New acquisition systems include Treasure Cars, located via poster-card style clues on the map, and Aftermarket Cars, which appear in the world and often reflect Japanese tuning culture. The Autoshow and Auction House remain available. These in-world methods provide alternatives to direct purchases and encourage exploration.
Event types include festival races, PR stunts, Showdown set pieces and a new Horizon Rush event type. Horizon Rush sends players through large obstacle-course style runs that emphasize precision driving for high scores. Discover Japan activities add tasks such as food deliveries, one-on-one street races and cooperative day trips designed to reward exploration.
Many cars are available early through pre-order packs and legacy gifts. High-performance vehicles can also be found in the open world, while some events stay gated by the Wristband and car-class progression. Progressing on either track unlocks additional in-world activities and events.
Observers have noted that several event types resemble those from previous entries and have called for more race types that take advantage of the Tokyo cityscape. Some players have also reported a rapid presentation of content early in the campaign.
Playground Games has announced plans for post-launch updates and additional content. Forza Horizon 6 is the series’ first Japan-based festival and the sixth mainline Horizon title since the franchise began 14 years ago.
