Free Onimusha PS5 demo available now; keep save to get charm
PS5 players can download a free demo of Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword from the PlayStation Store now and keep demo data to earn a Kubi Akari charm for the full game on Sept. 25, 2026.
Capcom has released a free demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword for PS5 on the PlayStation Store. The full game is scheduled to launch on Sept. 25, 2026. Players who retain demo save data will receive a Kubi Akari charm for use in the retail release.
The demo is available in all regions and does not require a PlayStation Plus subscription. PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can cloud stream the demo instead of downloading it. Capcom cautions that the demo differs in some respects from the full game and that progress made in the demo will not carry over into the retail version.
Keeping the demo save file triggers the Kubi Akari charm when players load the full game; the charm can be applied to strengthen protagonist Miyamoto Musashi’s abilities. The PlayStation Store description reads: “Wield Oni Armament attacks and experience the varied swordplay action on offer in this demo that will see you face off against the formidable boss, Sasaki Ganryu.” The demo includes at least one boss encounter with Sasaki Ganryu and demonstrates the game’s swordplay mechanics.
Capcom describes the demo as an early look at combat and systems that may be adjusted before launch. While demo progress does not carry over, retaining the save file is the means to claim the in-game reward.
Onimusha is a franchise built around action sword combat and supernatural enemies. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is Capcom’s latest entry in the series and will arrive on Sept. 25, 2026.
