Square Enix has released a free PS5 demo of Final Fantasy Resonance on the PlayStation Store. The demo covers the opening sequence through the game’s first chapter and supports save transfer to the full release.
Play begins in the in-game Kingdom of Grandshelt. An optional encounter with Sephiroth is available in the demo; players who defeat him receive a special in-game reward.
The demo follows a new trailer shown during Sony’s State of Play, which highlighted action and exploration elements and confirmed Sephiroth’s appearance. The title is co-developed by Square Enix and Lancarse and is presented as the franchise’s first HD-2D entry.
Final Fantasy Resonance rebuilds the first story arc of the 2015 mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a full console-quality RPG. Square Enix describes Resonance as “a celebration of classic and modern Final Fantasy that evokes the beloved titles of yesteryear.”
The publisher says the game uses a strategic turn-based battle system with a modern twist, and it includes series elements such as chocobos, espers and airships. Guest characters drawn from earlier Final Fantasy games include Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light.
Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled to release on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and will also be available on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The demo’s playable portion is estimated at three to five hours.
The demo offers an early look at the game’s combat, story and HD-2D visuals ahead of the full launch and ahead of another franchise entry, Final Fantasy Revelation, planned for next year.
